Scott Putesky Benefit

Published on October 23rd, 2013

scottputeskyScott Putesky has long been a contributor to the local music community, from Marilyn Manson and the Spooky Kids to Three Ton Gate and Kill Miss Pretty. Putesky recently announced his colon cancer diagnosis, and our community has responded. Amy T. Baxter is heading up the organization of a benefit in his honor.

Erin Engwall: How do you know Scott?
Amy T. Baxter: I knew him before the Manson days from the Reunion Room. We all hung out there. Three years ago, I decided I was going to play music again (with Shaved Hamster) and called Scott up and asked him to produce my album. He said great! We became very close friends over the years.

EE: What is your favorite thing about working with Scott?
AB: His kind heart, and his ability to create from a place of emotion. He asks “What do you want this song to convey?” You tell him, and he runs deep with it!

EE: What is Beat 4 Life?
AB: The first Beat 4 Life was an event that I organized in 2007, for my sister, who had breast cancer. We raised $14k as a result of this event, which helped with her medical expenses, got her house out of foreclosure, and raised money for Holy Cross Cancer Center. Since this first event, I’ve wanted to do a second one. When Scott revealed the severity of his diagnosis, it kicked me into full gear. The title of the event was inspired by our one heartbeat, in the music community. All of us are unified by our common interests.”

EE: What can patrons of the event expect on the evening of Beat 4 Life?
AB: Live music beginning at 6pm. Confirmed bands include: Humbert, Shark Valley Sisters, Jim Camacho, Jim Wuerster, Carey Peak, A New Way to Live Forever, Steve Carroll & Chad Pheubus, Brian Franklin, Shaved Hamster, and Manifest Test Subjects.

W Kelley Lucas is coordinating the art portion of the event. Some of the artists participating include Sas Christian, Colin Christian, Francesco Locastro, W Kelley Lucas, Skot Olsen, Rich Rethorn, and Coma Girl. More to be announced. There will be an online auction.

Beat 4 Life, a Cancer Benefit for Scott Mitchell Putesky will take place at Churchill’s Pub on Saturday, November 16 at 6pm.
